Mommy Makeover Recovery

You've spent years taking care of everyone else. Now it's your turn. A mommy makeover usually combines a tummy tuck, breast surgery (a lift, implants, or both), and often lipo, all in one day. That's a lot of healing at once.

Escúchame, reina (listen to me, queen): this recovery is bigger than one surgery, so let's plan for it like it is.

Mommy makeover recovery: the quick answer

Because you're healing several areas at the same time, expect more swelling, more soreness, and a longer recovery than a single procedure. Most women need real help at home for at least the first two weeks, and swelling can take several months to fully settle.

The two biggest keys: line up help with your kids before surgery, and follow your surgeon's lifting limits, even when your little one is crying for you.

Mommy Makeover Recovery

Why it feels harder than one surgery

  • Your belly and your chest are both healing, so there's no "comfortable side" to lean on

  • Sleeping is tricky. Your tummy tuck wants you slightly bent, and your breasts want you on your back

  • Two kinds of compression: a faja for your belly and a surgical bra for your chest

  • Drains, sometimes more than one

  • Lifting limits. Your surgeon will tell you how much you can lift, and for how long. That includes your kids

Poquito a poquito: little by little. You won't feel like yourself overnight, and that's normal.

The first two weeks

You'll spend most of your time resting, walking short distances, emptying drains, and wearing your compression. Expect to walk a little hunched at first because of your tummy tuck.

When to start lymphatic drainage

What I tell my clients: come see me once you feel ready to ride in a car without being really uncomfortable. I work around your incisions and drains, never on them, and gently help your body move the swelling from your belly, flanks, and chest.

Here's your chisme for today: practice your "mom logistics" before surgery. Set up a diaper station, snack bins, and a bath routine someone else can run, so nobody has to ask you to lift a thing.

Where will you recover?

If your surgery is out of town, decide early whether you'll stay in a recovery house, a hotel, or go straight home.

Get your supplies ready

Prepárate: get ready. Fajas, foam, a surgical bra, a shower chair, and easy snacks make a big difference.

When to call your surgeon

Ojo, watch out: call your surgeon for a fever, redness that's spreading, an incision that opens, one breast suddenly much bigger, harder, or more painful than the other, or swelling, pain, or warmth in one calf. Call 911 for chest pain or shortness of breath.
